The Donut is a dense swirl of solid wood, rich with varying grain and gradient in a clear finish. Topped with a round glass top, the donut functions as a coffee, cocktail, or conversation table, or by itself as sculpture or seat.

The piece is made entirely from repurposed wood, using vast quantities of hardwood factory waste that are discarded to eliminate knots, cracks, and color variation. To create the donut, the pieces are carefully composed by hand in a grid pattern and carved into its donut form. The arrangement of the boards throws up a unique flux of grain patterns that make each Donut table distinct and delicious to look at.

The underlying inspiration for the piece stems from a childhood memory. At the end of each school year, we would gather our old notebooks, carefully tear out the threads binding them, and separate any remaining blank pages. Under the watchful eyes of our mothers, we would neatly separate and stack these ruled, unruled, and grid-lined math pages, binding them together to create one giant workbook for the summer. This slow, deliberate task ingrained the idea that nothing should go to waste. This philosophy forms the foundation for the Donut’s creation, taking discarded wood and transforming it into something beautifully soft and sweet.
